The Salvation Army of Lynchburg has been serving the communities of Lynchburg, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell and Nelson counties for more than 110 years. Three hundred and sixty five days a ...year, The Salvation Army of Lynchburg shelters the homeless, feeds the hungry, clothe the needy, and provide mentoring opportunities for youth and adults in the community. Located in Lynchburg, VA, The Center of Hope provides annually close to 16,000 nights of shelter to those in need. The Center also provides 12,000 hours a year of classes on life skills, budgeting, nutrition and career development to enable its residents to succeed after they leave the shelter. In addition to providing shelter, The Center provides more than 37,000 meals a year to those who are hungry in the community. Volunteers and staff serve these meals two times a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Family Services, which is also part of the mission of the Center, assist with utilities, rent, food, clothing and furniture to those who have experienced a sudden negative impact in their lives, which has impeded their abilities to meet basic financial responsibilities. By providing this assistance, more families are able to stay in their homes and homelessness in the community is reduced. Youth programs designed to build character and commitment, and disaster services committed to helping those who have been a victim of floods, fire, tornadoes, hurricanes, or other natural disasters, all are part of the programs, services and ministries provided by The Salvation Army of Lynchburg.
